A new series of small paintings by David Swanson

The Frame Garden Gallery is presenting on the July 22nd Artwalk, “These Parts ‘Round Here,” a new series of small paintings by Livingston artist, David Swanson. The oils are depictions of fragments of Livingston and Park County landmarks and favorite haunts, mostly well known, a couple less so. They are small, each one 9”x12”, in contrast to Swanson’s much larger “Sweat & Steel” exhibit series and his work in general. “Sometimes it’s just nice to change up the scale of things. It can freshen up the work,” Swanson says. These pieces will, of course, be representative of the architectural painting for which he is well known, but will also include some figures and landscape.

The opening reception will be at 5:30 to 8:30, Friday, July 22.

David Swanson works as a full-time artist in oils, watercolor and charcoal. He and his family have lived in Livingston, Montana for over 12 years. He has a BFA from Montana State University, and has done artist in residencies and workshops in Park County. Before committing to fine art fulltime and moving to Livingston, Swanson worked for many years as a professional singer-songwriter, musician and recording artist, both in Chicago and Los Angeles, and as an architectural illustrator. He has exhibited frequently in Livingston and Bozeman, as well as Billings, Helena, Missoula, Cody, Jackson, Chicago and Santa Fe over the years, and is represented by The Frame Garden Gallery, Livingston Center for Art Culture and Betsy Swartz Fine Art in Bozeman. Swanson currently has a traveling exhibition of paintings about railroad workers titled “Sweat and Steel”, which opened at the Livingston Depot Museum on May 29, 2010, and will be touring the state into 2012. He also paints plein air, and a wide variety of subjects—architectural, figurative, landscape and portrait—in his Livingston studio.

George Cole Mixed Media Artwork exhibit opens in the Frame Garden Gallery during the last Art Walk of the season, Friday September 24 from 5:30 to 8:30 PM.

The show will run through October 20, and 70% of the sales price for George’s work will go to the Livingston Food Pantry.
